Trading EDI with Retailers is at best complicated. While each retailer generally trades the same documents, i.e. Purchase Order [850], PO Change [860], Invoice [810], Advanced Ship Notice [856], Ship Label [UCC-128], while each is similar, each may be different. EDI is a standard yes, but think about this – as a clothing manufacturer, each vendor or supplier will provide YOU with an invoice. Are they all alike? Some may contain very little information, while others will contain quite a bit of detail.
It is unrealistic in this economy for most apparel manufacturers or distributors to maintain staff dedicated to knowing what is required now, and what is coming down the pipeline soon.
